Netflix is poised to broadcast Christmas Day NFL matches for the upcoming three years, marking its initial genuine venture into live sports.
The streaming service will air two games on Christmas Day this year, with a minimum of one match scheduled for both 2025 and 2026, as declared by the league on Wednesday.
The amount Netflix expended for the streaming rights remains undisclosed.
Netflix has garnered substantial viewership with sports content, ranging from the "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" documentary to its "Quarterback" series tracking NFL quarterbacks. Despite previously indicating a lack of interest in live sports rights, the company made significant strides by securing a deal to stream WWE's "Raw" and broadcasting a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
Now, Netflix will stream games from the nation's most-watched sports league, aligning with its efforts to bolster profits through subscription price hikes, encouraging users to opt for ad-tier memberships, and clamping down on password sharing.
Last year, the three Christmas Day NFL games amassed an average of 28.68 million viewers, according to Sports Media Watch.
