Bangladesh selectors unveiled a 15-player contingent for the ICC T20 World Cup, excluding all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin and appointing Taskin Ahmed as the deputy skipper for the competition at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.
Taskin had sat out the final T20I of the five-game series against Zimbabwe due to an injury and was in danger of losing his spot for the World Cup. Nevertheless, the selectors allayed those concerns today and also designated him as the second-in-command under skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for the tournament.
Saifuddin, who had made his comeback to the national squad in the Zimbabwe series, failed to make the final squad after his disappointing performance in the series, during which he leaked more than nine runs per over.
The Bangladesh squad will depart for the USA on Wednesday. The Tigers are scheduled to compete in a three-match T20 series against the USA commencing on May 21 before embarking on their T20 World Cup journey.
Bangladesh roster: Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Taskin Ahmed (vice-captain), Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Tamim, Shakib Al Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali, Tanvir Islam, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Sakib.
