Awami League's General Secretary, Obaidul Quader, asserted today that the government remains indifferent to any sanctions or visa regulations imposed by the US.

"We pay no heed to visa policies or sanctions," remarked Quader, who also serves as the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, in response to a journalist's inquiry at his office in the Secretariat.

Quader emphasized that Donald Lu holds the position of US Assistant Secretary of State, not that of Foreign Minister, questioning why Bangladesh should accord him undue attention.

The minister highlighted Lu's visit to Bangladesh as a necessity rather than a privilege.

"In any relationship, various aspects are deliberated upon. Their presence here serves that purpose. We didn't extend an invitation," Quader clarified.

Donald Lu's arrival in Dhaka this morning marks a two-day mission aimed at fortifying bilateral cooperation and showcasing US endorsement for a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
