Hollywood performer Steve Buscemi has received medical attention after being assaulted in the face while strolling in New York City.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) informed CNN that it's probing the attack, which occurred on Wednesday and is the most recent in a series of unprovoked assaults in the city.
Last month, CNN interviewed several women who recounted being struck in the face unexpectedly while navigating the streets of New York City.
"Buscemi was attacked in Mid-Town Manhattan, another casualty of a spontaneous act of violence in the city," his representative conveyed in a statement to CNN.
"He's alright and grateful for everyone's concerns, though deeply saddened for anyone else who has experienced this while simply walking the streets of NY," the statement added.
As per the NYPD, law enforcement was summoned to the location at 369 3rd Avenue just before midday on Wednesday, May 8.
"Upon arrival, officers were alerted that a 66-year-old male had been punched in the face by an unidentified individual," the police report stated.
"EMS arrived and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/ Bellevue in stable condition for treatment related to bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye," the NYPD mentioned.
"At present, there have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing," authorities clarified.
"The perpetrator is described as a male with dark complexion, donning a dark-colored baseball-style cap, blue t-shirt, black trousers, white sneakers, and carrying a backpack," as stated by the police.
The police department has solicited the public's assistance in identifying the culprit.
Buscemi was born in Brooklyn, New York. He is renowned for his roles in movies like "Reservoir Dogs" (1992) and "Fargo" (1996), as well as TV series such as "Boardwalk Empire" and "30 Rock."
