An online gateway linking the urban landscapes of New York City and Dublin has recently emerged, transforming into a bustling hub for strangers seeking connections spanning vast distances.

Broadcasting live throughout the summer from the bustling crossroads of 5th Avenue, Broadway, and 23rd Street in Manhattan, the planned cultural activities seem to have taken a backseat to an abundance of flirtatious exchanges.

"My initial impression was that this could be the start of a wonderful love tale," expressed Ali Weber-Heavey, aged 25, when speaking to The Post on Friday.

Initially planning just a brief visit to inspect the newfound portal on her way home from work, she found herself drawn to linger, observing the multitude of Dubliners peering through.

"It truly halted me in my tracks. And, it was truly a sensation I've never experienced before," she recounted.

Weber-Heavey gained online traction after sharing a TikTok video of herself amidst the crowd in the Flatiron District, alongside a gathering of youthful Irishmen within the portal, accompanied by an audio clip stating, "You seem lonesome... I can remedy that."

The Brooklyn resident was quick to clarify that she already had a significant other — but couldn't shake the thought of the portal's potential for serendipitous encounters.

She's not alone in this sentiment.

Individuals seeking fresh dating inspiration have been spotted congregating around the 24/7 virtual livestream — essentially an ongoing video conference — to spot potential romantic interests, throw up heart gestures, display signs bearing their social media handles, and even exchange contact details.

One optimistic Dubliner was observed brandishing a homemade sign bearing a candid request: "Send Nudes."

Yet, others are exploring more earnest connections.

"Finding a partner through the portal in NYC is the epitome of modern romance," shared @sjones112 on TikTok. "It's amusing until it isn't."

These portals are situated on Dublin's vibrant O'Connell Street, a bustling thoroughfare north of the River Liffey, and the public square adjacent to NYC's iconic Flatiron Building.

Additional portals have been erected in Poland and Lithuania, as detailed on the portal's official website, potentially fostering further international romantic connections.

The installation was conceived to celebrate Dublin's designation as the European City of Smart Tourism for 2024 — yet, it may soon earn the moniker of European City of Sultry Tourism.

"We are overwhelmed by the positive responses we've received. We aren't prescribing any specific mode of interaction with the Portals or with each other," organizers conveyed to Euronews Travel.

"Rather, the Portals serve as an invitation to encounter fellow human beings and for individuals to interpret and experience it in their own way. In this regard, we are merely spectators of this phenomenon, and it's truly inspiring to witness the immense creative energy and the profound impact of human connection."

However, some individuals' "creative energy" has led to unwelcome disruptions.

A reportedly "inebriated" woman in her forties was apprehended in Dublin on Wednesday night after being observed "grinding against" the installation. She was escorted away by two national law enforcement officers, as reported by LimerickLive.
