Australian authorities fatally shot a teenage boy following his stabbing and injuring of a man in an assault displaying the "markers" of terrorism, officials stated.

The adolescent, identified as a 16-year-old Caucasian male, wielded a knife during the attack in a Perth suburb, announced WA Premier Roger Cook.

WA police commissioner Col Blanch remarked that the assault "bears the characteristics" of a terrorist deed, indicating it "fits the criteria or at least the description" of such an offense.

Blanch detailed that on Saturday evening, local law enforcement received a report from a male indicating his intent to "carry out violent acts."

Minutes later, another call reported a knife-wielding individual on the loose, Blanch elaborated. Responding promptly, three officers were dispatched.

Upon reaching the scene, officers encountered the teen, who stood alone brandishing a "large kitchen knife," Blanch recounted.

Despite commands to drop the weapon, the suspect defied, opting to charge at the police. Despite the deployment of two tasers, which proved ineffective, the third officer "discharged a single round, fatally injuring the male," Blanch continued.

Subsequent to the shooting, police uncovered that the teen had previously stabbed and wounded a middle-aged man before the confrontation with law enforcement.

The victim presently resides in the hospital in a serious yet stable condition with a back wound, Blanch confirmed.

Prior to the incident, the teen had been on law enforcement's radar, Blanch disclosed, as he "had been involved in a program focused on online radicalization for the past few years."

"We are addressing intricate matters with this 16-year-old male, encompassing mental health concerns alongside online radicalization," Blanch remarked.

The program centered on addressing violent extremism among individuals exhibiting troubling behavior, Blanch articulated.

He mentioned that police received numerous reports both prior to and following the incident from members of Western Australia's Muslim community, expressing apprehensions about the individual.

"I want to extend gratitude to members of the Muslim community who came forward because that facilitated our swift identification of this individual and subsequent response," Blanch acknowledged.

In a statement issued Sunday regarding the incident, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese asserted, "We are a nation that embraces peace, and there is no room for violent extremism in Australia."

This occurrence follows last month's assault on a priest and bishop at a Sydney church. Authorities apprehended a 16-year-old in connection with the incident, labeling it a terrorist act.
