Emma Stone is clarifying the situation regarding her viral reaction to a quip made by Jimmy Kimmel at this year’s Oscars.

Back in March, a video clip of Stone’s response to Kimmel’s joke spread like wildfire on social media. Many viewers, based on speculative lip-reading, interpreted Stone as calling the four-time Oscar host a “jerk.”

However, as it turns out, Stone was completely unaware of this interpretation.

“I didn’t label him a jerk,” she revealed to the Hollywood Reporter in an interview released on Wednesday. “I wasn’t bothered by him at all. I’ll need to investigate that.”

During the Oscars broadcast, a montage featuring scenes from each of the 10 best picture-nominated films was aired. Following the clip from “Poor Things,” Kimmel quipped that “those were all the parts of ‘Poor Things’ that we’re permitted to show on TV,” seemingly alluding to the explicit and risqué content of the R-rated movie.

The camera then cut to Stone for her reaction, catching her quietly mouthing something to her husband Dave McCary, triggering the viral moment on social media.

Fortunately, Stone possesses a good sense of humor, as noted by her “Curse” co-star Nathan Fielder, who mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter interview that she is “always game for a laugh.”

“I’m nearly impossible to offend,” Stone concurred.

The actress clinched her second Oscar in the lead actress category this year for her portrayal of Bella Baxter in the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed “Poor Things.” She previously nabbed the accolade for her role in the 2016 film “La La Land.”

“Poor Things” garnered 11 nominations and secured four Oscars at this year’s Academy Awards.

Lanthimos and Stone had collaborated before on 2018’s “The Favourite” prior to working together on “Poor Things,” and they are reuniting for “Kinds of Kindness,” slated for release on June 21.
