Three adolescent scholars hailing from a madrasa in Rajshahi’s Paba Upazila met their demise in the waters of the Padma River.
The deceased, identified only by their first names Juboraj, Nuruzzaman, and Arif, aged between 13 and 14, were enrolled at the local Katakhali Jamia Osmania Madrasa.
Their lifeless bodies were retrieved from the river in the Charshyampur locality of the Upazila, between 2:00pm and 2:45pm on Tuesday, as reported by Abu Sama, a senior official at Rajshahi Sadar Fire Station.
Accompanied by their peers, seven youths ventured for a swim in the river around 1:00pm, as per Sama's account.
“Juboraj succumbed to the currents, prompting Nuruzzaman and Arif to attempt a rescue, resulting in their own tragic demise,” Sama elaborated.
Upon receiving notification from the distraught families, the fire service personnel promptly initiated a search operation upon arrival at 1:30pm. The bodies of the three adolescents were subsequently recovered one by one.
Following the necessary legal procedures, the bodies were handed over to the grieving families, according to the fire service official.
This lamentable incident follows closely on the heels of another tragic event on Sunday afternoon, where two individuals lost their lives while bathing in the Padma River in the Harupur vicinity under Kashiadanga Police Station in Rajshahi.
