Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.O) introduced a fresh range of semiconductors tailored for AI-equipped business laptops and desktops, aiming to bolster its position in the profitable "AI PC" sector. These processors are slated to debut on platforms from HP (HPQ.N) and Lenovo (0992.HK) by the second quarter of 2024, according to AMD's press release. AI-capable PCs have the ability to execute extensive language models and applications driven by this technology directly on the device, bypassing reliance on cloud infrastructure.

AMD stated that its newest Ryzen PRO 8040 Series was designed for "business laptops and mobile workstations," while the AMD Ryzen PRO 8000 Series served as a desktop processor targeting business clientele.

The company's shares experienced a rise of over 2% during early trading hours.

Analysts have suggested that a potential resurgence in the PC market hinges on the introduction of AI-equipped PCs, as users seek to enhance their systems with the latest capabilities.

The emergence of generative AI technology has spurred significant demand for sophisticated semiconductors capable of developing and executing intricate AI applications.

In the realm of AI PCs, AMD confronts fierce rivalry from Intel (INTC.O) and Nvidia (NVDA.O), a frontrunner in AI chip technology, acclaimed for its leadership in graphics processing units (GPUs).

AMD launched the Ryzen 8000G Series of desktop processors in January, tailored for the demanding workloads associated with AI-driven tasks.

Simultaneously, Nvidia introduced its own AI PC chips - the "GeForce RTX SUPER" desktop GPUs - announcing partnerships with Acer, ASUS, Dell Technologies (DELL.N), HP, Lenovo, and Samsung (005930.KS) for the release of AI-enabled laptops featuring its technology.
